Coliform bacteria found in feces is a common pollutant in NC waterways and creeks. When there are high levels of this bacteria in water it is unsafe for human contact. It promotes weed and algae growth. In addition, pet waste takes up oxygen, when it decays it releases ammonia and becomes unsafe for marine life.
