Why does cleaning up pet waste provide a safer and cleaner environment?
Bacteria, parasites and viruses in petwaste are a health risk to animals and people, especially children. Pet waste is a hazard. When stormwater drains into our waterways making water quality unsafe. Coliform bacteria found in feces is a common pollutant in NC waterways and creeks. When there are high levels of this bacteria in water it is unsafe for human contact. It promotes weed and algae growth. In addition, pet waste takes up oxygen, when it decays it releases ammonia and becomes unsafe for marine life.
