Chromex contains microscopic aluminum frets, which is what gives the finished product the appearance of polished aluminum, but 1300 degrees is the oxidizing point of aluminum. Therefore, exceeding that temperature will oxidize the coating’s frets and turn it dull. It cannot be repolished, it must be recoated.
