Why does Chicago Cyberbuys charge a handling fee in addition to shipping?
Occasionally, a customer will ask why we charge a handling fee in addition to shipping (s&h). The simple fact of the matter is that shipping is one of the most costly facets of our business. The first 500 items we sold, in our first year were based only on the pure shipping costs. We soon realized that the costs incurred with shipping were far more than we ever thought. Equipment & Office Leases Boxes/Mailers Shipping Labels Packaging Tape Packing Materials Employee Time/Labor Shippers Pick-Up Costs Storage & Equipment Rental We do not treat Shipping & Handling as a “Profit Center”. We add a minimal fee with most packages that we ship to cover our costs, and are stated in the description section in every one of our auctions. Many items we list for auction are sold at or below our cost. We don’t want to sell every item in a reserve price auction. It would be unfair to ask us to absorb additional shipping charges when profits are already obviously low on many items. We all wish that ship
