Why does cassius want to get rid of caesar?

It’s nothing really exciting. Cassius was never on Caesar’s side by choice, and then several things happened to Cassius, which he blamed on Caesar (like when Caesar elected Brutus to a certain job/position that Cassius felt should be his, etc.) If you really want to know about it, this explalins it pretty well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaius_Cassi… Though, of course, in Shakespeare’s play (not entirely based in historic fact) Cassius’ excuse for killing Caesar is that Caesar may eventually become a tyrant. Not really the best reason, but there you have it.
