Why does Cassie become so angry at Mr. Barnett?
ahart26 Teacher Middle School In chapter 5, TJ, Stacey and Cassie go to Mr.Barnett’s store to get the things that are on Big Ma’s list. He ignores them and waits on his white customers leaving them waiting for over an hour. Cassie approaches him, and he insults her telling her to take a look at herself and what she is. She continues to protest and Mr. Barnett kicks her out of the store and says, “make sure she don’t come back till yo’ mammy teach her what she is.” Cassie is angry because she was discriminated against for being African American.
