Why does Canon offer two Device Type solutions – the Standard and the Extended?

0

Initially, the standard device types were developed by SAP and offered basic feature functionality such as input tray, duplex/simplex, paper size, orientation, and copies. The extended device types were developed by Canon to offer additional functionality such as staple, hole punch and output bin selection. The standard device types were fully supported by SAP, and the installation instructions of the extended device types were supported by Canon U.S.A., Inc. Now the device type functionalities have been combined and are available in one zip file on SAP and Canon U.S.A websites. Extended device types for older models are also still available on this website. Simply select Drivers and Downloads link from the left navigational bar on this page and click on the zip file link for appropriate device as noted on the description.
