Why does baseball have a manager but other sports have a head coach?
Because in other sports, there are much more action and contact involved. Coaches constantly have to tell players this and that at any moment of the game….meanwhile in Baseball, there are already the “hitting coach”, “pitching coach”, “bench coach”, etc so the “Manager” basically oversees the entire operation. Managers do more of “managing” than “coaching”, since there are already so many other coaches in the game, the ones I mentioned above in addition to the 1B coach and 3B coach. In baseball the pace is much slower and many moves have to be dissected throughout the entire game. In Basketball, hockey, football, the coach is walking up and down the sidelines yelling at players all the time being very active….On the otherhand, in baseball, the “manager”, stands there and watch like the other players and coaches in the dougout, so that’s why they’re called “managers” instead of “coaches”.
