Why does Ayers Rock change colour?
The Ayers Rock, now called again Uluru, changes its colour because the reflection of the sun during sunset and sunrise. The rock contains lots of iron which rusts in the rain. So what you actually see is the rust which shines in different shades. It’s amazing as I saw it in its different shades of red as well as in a golden colour during a frosty winter’s morning sunlight when I was walking around the rock. @ Scouse: On my very first visit (out of three) I also had the luck to see the rock’s sunset with a thunderstorm around – no rain at all cause it was too hot and the water vanished in the air (so to speak) but with lots of lightning. So, you really had been lucky…..
