Why does AUC need to raise money?
There is no question that providing a quality education is expensive. In order to attract the best faculty, you must offer competitive compensation on an international level. The needed labs, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities are all also expensive. At the same time, the revenue from tuition does not cover the university’s current operating costs, let alone the expenses for building the new campus. In fact, the last President’s Report indicates that net academic tuition and fees account for about 53 percent of operating revenues. The second largest source, nearly 19 percent of AUC’s income, is the returns from its endowment, whichnwas created by the university’s founders in order to support its operations.
