Why does american soldiers go AWOL?
Well, from my experience, some soldiers go AWOL once reality hits about what they have gotten themselves into. Sometimes it’s because they’ve served this country for 3 plus enlistments, and then get promotions, and the simplest of freedoms, such as a 3 day pass taken away, because one day they accidentally slept in and missed PT. Sometimes it’s because they’ve been blown up on tour, and they just cannot deal with life anymore, nevermind the rigorous army schedule. Then again, sometimes it’s because they’re down right cowards who never should’ve been in the military in the first place. Whatever the reasoning behind it, in my opinion, if someone wants to go AWOL, then let ’em go. If they’re not happy to be there, I don’t want them watching my back when s*** hits the fan. I love the people I serve with, I’m grateful for the people watching my husband’s back, and if they can’t handle it……… ciao.
