Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard, who was photographed clutching a teddy bear on the 1996 medals stand, no longer wants anything to do with animal fur – and she’s willing to go pretty far to prove it. Before diving into a Beijing pool this month for her fourth Olympic Games, Beard, 26, will slip out of her Speedo as part of a new ad campaign for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body,” Beard said in a press release. She could not be reached for comment on Monday. Beard was not paid to do the ad, according to PETA. Live from China, PETA will hold a press conference Wednesday to unveil the ad, which shows Beard – a graduate of Irvine High School – in the buff. The animal rights group’s new campaign, tagged “Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin. The animal advocacy group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has found a way to draw attention to their cause. The organization has a knack for convincing celebrities to take their clothes off. The latest is Amanda Beard Olympic swimming star and model. See video, CLICK HERE. Beard has won seven Olympic medals in the years, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. PETA was able to get attention of the public and law and policy makers through the use of actresses posing in various stages of undress, most notably Pamela Anderson. Beard posed without wearing her swimsuit for the group in August 2008. Her ad was featured at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. “Seeing animals slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me, so I’m definitely against wearing fur … I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body,” the caption read.
