Why Does Aluminium have wide packaging use in drugs and health industries?
Aluminium is one of the lightest most complete barrier materials for packaging. With few exceptions, acidic food being one, a very thin layer of aluminium can protect the product from the point of manufacture, through transportation and storage, until use. It’s weight contributes minimally to transportation costs and it’s versatility lends itself to a variety of packaging forms, from cans to foil trays to pill blister-packs. It is also very recyclable, of the 680 million tonnes produced on the planet since the 1880’s, 440 million tonnes are still in use. So in short, for the drug and health industries, it is a versatile, lightweight material that protects products from contamination from the environment, such as from moisture, maintains their sterile state and extends their shelf life whilst not degrading over time itself..
