Why does ALPA employ Balanda store managers?
At one point all ALPA stores employed Indigenous managers. Although ALPA could teach the required skills, we could not provide the necessary cultural authority. This, coupled with family cultural obligations, created enormous pressure for our Indigenous managers. The ALPA Board decided that until these cultural barriers could be overcome, ALPA would employ non-Indigenous managers. ALPA is still committed to an evolving Indigenous management program. All staff other than management, including assistant managers and supervisors, are Indigenous.
