Why does Alarmtec recommend an outside siren? The security system sends a signal to the alarm monitoring station, so why is a siren needed?
Most security systems use the customer’s telephone line to transmit the alarm signal using a specialized modem, called a digital communicator. A telephone number is automatically dialed that connects the security system to the alarm monitoring center’s alarm receiver and the alarm signal is transmitted. The major potential risk is of the telephone line being cut. If this occurs, the signal will never reach the monitoring station. An installed outside siren can be configured to activate when a telephone failure occurs or if an actual alarm condition is detected. The activation of an external siren may deter further entry into the building and scare off an intruder.
