Why does a tiny island nation jamaica have the fastest men and women in the world?
It is because it is the only sport in which they compete. Please note that the fastest ever recorded 100m was by an american, Tyson Gay. It wasn’t a World Record because of the wind speed. Gay had injury problems leading up to the olympics and so failed to make it into the100m final. Sprinting is a horrible event to compete in. Sports people looking for a career will normally choose something more reliable and profitable. Who is going to turn down a $million baseball or football contract to run against a hundred athletes who will all beat you on a bad day. Sprint training isn’t enjoyable and there is a high injury risk. It isn’t something most people want to do. There needs to be a culture in the community to bring talent on. Olympians need good genetics, but there is nothing special about Jamicans. It is not a Black/ White thing either. I doubt anyone would suggest that White British track cyclists have a racial advantage.
