Why does a murderer return to the scene of the crime?

They come back because they get paranoid and think they left something at the scene that would get them caught and try to get there before anyone else does OR they want to go back and see what the police are doing so they know exactley whats going on. 9 times out of 10 a suspect will come back to the scene of a murder and observe the homicide detectives at work but will say nothing or they will act like a witness… the other criminals that dont show up are just as dumb because they usually are the ones who actually did leave something at the scene placing them at the scene of the crime..
