Why does a barefoot girl always die in horror movies?

For the same reason that people in Action movies rarely run sideways, out of the path of the boulder (or whatever-it-happens-to-be) that’s quickly bearing down on them. And for the same reason that people on their death beds in Chick Flicks usually die during a storm, at the exact moment the grieving friend/family member has her back turned while shutting the window. And the same reason that hearing “Fire and Rain” (James Taylor) in the background is a probable omen that something bad is going to happen to the person driving on the screen. It’s a staple in movies – something you can count on (usually, but not always). I find it oddly comforting.
