It is important to understand that sleeping patterns are not something that a child is inherently born with but something that has to be adjusted to. Crying for the toddler is itself a symptom of some other invisible problem or occurrence. It could be possible that the cot is too cold or warm or generally uncomfortable. A problem with the child’s psychology where crying may get it what it wants may also be part of the problem. You could try and make the child comfortable by co-resting or in other words get the child to sleep next to you. In this way the child gets a sense of serenity and security. It also helps adjust the sleep schedule of your child. Sometimes teething and the uncomfortable sensations related to this can also result in the child crying for long hours. If the child is allowed to rest for extended periods during the day it might find it hard to sleep at night.
