Why do younger people drink beer and when they get older they drink wine?
The question itself is flawed and misguided. Beer is in fact an older beverage than wine that dates back to ancient Egypt. Perhaps in America, where the most common concept most people have of the drink is Budweiser, wine is considered the “mature” choice. Anybody who has ventured even half-heartedly into the world of beer, however, will know there exists a massive variety and complexity. From cloudy Baltic porters to intense Belgian lambics to complex sour Weißes, the range is virtually limitless. I suggest you do some online research, and perhaps seek out microbreweries (or at least some imported selections at your grocery) for an idea of what’s possible. It’s far, far from the commercialized American mold you’ve probably been exposed to your entire life. Watery, tasteless, corn-based US lager is as much a true beer as Folgers is a coffee or Kenny G is a jazz musician.
