Nice question. You are right in alll your assumptions. Because men in their society push for it. Muslim men are probably the most insecure in the world. They get their (arranged) marriage – then do all within their power to keep their woman in case she finds him boring and wants to find someone else. Sad but true. That’s why most western women would never agree to ‘submit’ to Islam. Because it basically means submitting to men’s insecurities, Good question gal!
