Why do you think the reality tv show “Big Brother” is so successful?
If a measure of success is that more people vote in the BB final than do in the European parlaimantary elections ought to tell us something. I have followed it on and off trying to work out what its appeal is. I think it is vicarious living and probably not far removed from what our Victorian forebears were doing visiting Lunatic Asylums for their amusement. It is perhaps guilt-free licence to watch really quite damaged people performing in a lame attempt to start a career as a minor celebrity, and derive some comfort from the fact that no matter how badly we behave ourselves its as nothing to the depths these wannabees are prepared to sink in the pursuit of fame.
