Why do you think that Shakespeare added Macbeth seeing Banquos spirit?
My new understanding about ghosts is that they have been around for thousands of years. The first record of ghosts ever existing was told in the story “The Epic of Gilgamesh”. As time went on there were many other sightins of ghosts all over the world and many stories were told and passed on. People have learned to deal with ghosts although many people all over the world have many suspertisions that ghosts are all bad and bring misfortune. During the ancient times, the Romans used noise to keep the spirits away. The bad spirits were said to be scared of noise and that kept them away. In China, during Chinese festivals, the Chinese used lanterns with water to make them disappear. They also left food so when the spirits would come to visit they can take food with them on their journey. I feel that Shakespeare added Macbeth seeing Banquo’s spirit to show that spirits are all around and they can come out when you least expect it.
