While Playstation 2 emulators like PCSX2 have gotten better about emulating the hardware, the firmware (BIOS) of the Playstation 2 is very unique. It takes time to reverse-engineer all the system calls that games make to the BIOS, so there is currently no drop-in replacement for the real deal.
