Why do women shave their legs?
Women have different reasons as to why they actually remove the hair, there’s no ‘one Universal’ reason. I do it because I hate how hair on my legs looks and feels. I suppose a lot of that is conditioning from society, women are presented with images of hair less legs being the ‘norm’ and ‘ideal’. As for the actual method of hair removal, shaving is relatively quick, painless and cheap. Waxing hurts and you have to let the hair grow to a certain length, creams can be messy (and smelly!)…I for one am allergic to most of them. Shaving doesn’t present any of these issues, except the hair does grow back quite quickly.
Women shave their legs to look younger. Hairless legs give the women the look of a preteen. Just as many things women do (or used to do) like accenting narrow waists or breast size or swaying hips, by wearing heels, shaving excentuates a key difference between mature men and women: hairy bodies. It also helps that 20th century razors make the process easier and that advertising has accelerated and magnified the style.
