Why do women enjoy movies about interpersonal relations more than movies about things blowing up?
I am about to make some rather broad generalizations here. As such, I recognize that there are going to be exception to these generalizations. Women just tend to be more into emotions than men are. When they encounter problems they tend to commiserate about them. So, they prefer entertainment that focuses on relationships. Men on the other hand tend to be more actions oriented. The see a problem; they try to solve it. So, men tend to prefer entertainments that include more action. This tendency seems to be hardwired into us. I have mentioned this study before, but some people put a bunch of toddlers on one side of a transparent barrier and their mothers on the other side. As a general rule, the boys would attack the barrier in an attempt to get at their mothers and the girls would just start to cry. I would propose that these differences in psychology are a result of the way we evolved as a species. The men went out and did the hunting while the women stayed back in the encampment gath
I, a male, personally prefer movies about interpersonal relations more than movies about things blowing up. From my perspective, it is the entertainment value in thinking about relationships even after the movie is over. Don’t get me wrong, I love to think about the technical side of explosions, but from the conversations I’ve had with my female friends, it is entertaining to compare the lives of the real with the lives of the surreal.
