Why do we print the fourth colour black then?
As we found out earlier, the printing process is not quite perfect, and printing just cyan, magenta and yellow together will only produce a muddy black. So we print a fourth colour to produce depth in images, and of course as most type is generally black, printing a black ink keeps text nice and sharp and dense. So subtractive colour is the colour we see through the reflection of light bouncing off an object (eg printed material).
