Why do we need to use scientific names in classifying organisms?
Scientific names can be used globally, without a specific widespread language taking precedence. Take, for example, the common ivy, Hedera helix. Most countries in Europe alone have a different name for this plant, due to heir own language, Also, in English, some names can refer to a wide range of organisms (Lily, for example), or a number of names are used for one and the same organism. Using scientific names rules out any confusion and ambiguity, which can be fatal in science.
