Why do we need to ensure that our Training Department is staffed with Mesaba pilots as instructors and check airmen?
There are two key reasons we believe that it is in everyone’s best interest to staff the Training Department with Mesaba pilots: 1) quality of training, and 2) job protection and opportunity for Mesaba pilots. Quality of Training We believe that the highest quality of training is attained through both skill and experience. A non-seniority list instructor may have good teaching skills, but does not have the wealth of experience in Mesaba’s operations that distinguish a good instructor from a great instructor. In both ground and flight training, the instructors who receive the highest praise from their students are those who have been able to draw upon their own experiences to illustrate the concepts they are teaching. In addition, that same experience better enables them to answer complex systems/operations questions and to meaningfully analyze the various judgment calls we make each day on the line.
