Why do we need the right financial outcome from Ofwat?
So we can deliver what our customers have told us they want. Because the money from customers’ bills alone won’t cover the cost of all the work we need to do, we need to borrow the rest. To do this we need to be able to offer a reasonable return to banks and investors – otherwise they won’t want to lend to us. Ofwat sets the levels of returns we are allowed to offer. Of the £5.5bn of essential investment we need to make over the next five years, £3bn will be raised through debt, which is why we need the right decision.
