Why do we judge Greek existence by patterns that didn exist?
Macedonia was looked down upon by the rest of the greeks prior to their anexation by Alexander. It was percieved by many in the general hellenic society that they were no more than wannabees that were not ethnically greek. This although strictly true did not stop these wannabees wanting to be considered Greek. It was only when Alexander the Great (named so due to his awesome abilities as a general and th conquerering of many nations) used force against the many seperate and individual city states through the clever use of alliances and military superiority that the Greeks really did not have a choice about whether the Macedonian people should be considered Greek or not, they controlled Greece and therefore could say anything they wanted, don’t forget the old saying that history is written by the victors, in essence therefore we need to consider that some sources especially those after Alexander will be bias and probably as i think some do declare Alexander as the greatest Greek ever.
