Why do we have to make up the days and other school systems don’t? Why can’t we just lengthen the school day to fulfill the 1,000 hours requirement?
For the 1999-2000 school year, the N.C. General Assembly passed a bill that allows school districts declared a disaster area due to inclement weather to waive the 180-day requirement as long as the 1,000 hour requirement is met. Mecklenburg County was not eligible during that year because the county was not declared a disaster area.
