For the 1999-2000 school year, the N.C. General Assembly passed a bill that allows school districts declared a disaster area due to inclement weather to waive the 180-day requirement as long as the 1,000 hour requirement is met. Mecklenburg County was not eligible during that year because the county was not declared a disaster area.
