You don’t mention what problems you’ve been hearing about. It seem to me that the issue of boat people, refugees, and immigration numbers, is actually a smokescreen put up by both parties so we overlook, and don’t question, their policies on the more important issues of education, health and infrastructure! While it’s easy to say we should close the borders, as the previous answerer state Australia has agreed to accept a certain number of refugees and asylum seekers each year. As a first world country i believe it’s our responsibility to help those who have been displaced because of war or famine. Australia is lucky in that we are an isolated nation. Invasion here is far more difficult than it is in Europe, the Middle East or Asia, so we have less chance of experiencing, or even understanding, what these people have been through.
