It is a form of meditation and outward spiritual expression. What is chanted are generally either sutras (Buddhist teachings) or Dharani’s (harmonic prayers). Zazen is sitting, Kinhin is walking, Shakyo is writing (visual), Chanting or Okyo is audio. all of these are forms of concentration and expressions of practice. They also equate to the qualities of concentration, action, humility in practice.
