And why is July 4th the day that we celebrate our independence? What happened on that day in 1776? July 4th 1776 was the day that 56 courageous men signed the most important document in the history of our nation, the Declaration of Independence. It was the Declaration that gave birth to our nation and has kept it alive and strong for these 225 years. It’s interesting that the most celebrated document in our nation’s history is largely ignored by many today. Of course, the reason for this becomes clear, even before we finish reading the first paragraph of this great work. Those who would deny the Christian heritage of our nation, would rather us focus our attention on the Constitution or the great Bill of Rights, so that they can matter-of-factly point out that “these documents contain no reference of God.” Why would I suggest that the Declaration is so far superior to our Constitution or Bill of Rights?
