Why do volumes created with the FreeOTFE v2.00 and later have the extension “.vol”?

This is purely to maintain consistency with the PDA version (see other FAQ for an explanation as to why the PDA version uses filename extensions). FreeOTFE gives you complete freedom over what you name your volume files.
