Why Do Vocal Warmups?
I know singing is so much fun somtimes you just want to jump right into singing your favorite song, thinking I will warm-up as I sing or I will get my vocal exercise in while singing. Vocal exercises are not the same as vocal warmups. Most vocal exercises are longer and designed to build endurance and flexibilty. Vocal warm ups are meant to loosen and limber the voice, shake off the dreaded phlegm, and place the voice in a nice position to produce the best tones. So, unless you are just singing around your house or in the shower and not really trying to belt one out at a performance, singing without warming up is a big mistake and could lead to vocal problem down the line. If you want to learn how to sing or improve your voice, then you should always do vocal warmups before singing.
