I have wondered this for 60 years and studied it on a lot of levels. Some would tell you it is because people need to think something is bigger than them–protection, fate, love, direction. Others would tell you it is because people have a deep internal knowledge that there must be something to life beyond our reality–call it intuition. Some might feel they are part of a big picture, that there has to be a connection to all things. I had an out-of-body experience as a child while unconscious that convinced me there is a soul. I was looking down at the people who found me unconscious and I could see myself. And a psychic with real talent later in life convinced me that our passed relatives guide us and help us.
