Why do Victorian government departments have environmental management systems?

0

The Victorian Government is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its own operations. Environmental management systems are internationally recognised as an effective tool for environmental performance management. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has developed a standard for developing and implementing an EMS (ISO 14001). All Victorian Government Departments are required to develop an EMS consistent with this standard. Two statutory authorities have also voluntarily developed an EMS.
