Why do trees not produce fruit / nuts etc. if they are grown from seed?

Some fruit trees are the result of a lot of selection so they are normally grown from cuttings to get more of the same type of fruit.. If you take the seed from the fruit and grow it, you could get a very primitive version of the same fruit on the tree you grow. Lemons are a good example. If you grow a lemon tree from seed you will get a fruit but there is a strong chance it won’t be big and juicy like a commercially produced lemon tree would produce. You could also get lucky and produce something better. Some other trees grow just fine from seed and produce good fruit.
