Why do Trade Unions Financially support MPs who Oppose Public Sector pay Demands?

This is a good question I asked this question to a trade union official a few months ago. He said that some MPs are distancing themselves from trade unions and that in the future we may see trade unions distancing themselve from new labour. However he said that the ones who are supporting new labour are only doing so because it ensures there grievances are listened to, so they are in the loop rather than outside it. I think they should stop supporting new labour immediately and set up a new political party which stands for the workers.
