Why do they make some meat alternatives look and taste like meat?
Q I am trying to have an open mind about the “pretend” meats like the Sanitarium stuff, but I am baffled as to why they try to make it look and taste like meat… I mean if you wanted something that looked and tasted like meat wouldn’t you just eat meat? A There are several reasons why some people choose “pretend” meats over the real thing. Some people love the taste and texture of meat but don’t agree with having animals killed, or it is against their religion to eat meat. Other people are trying to reduce their consumption of saturated fats or cholesterol and still want something “meaty” in some or all of their meals. Meat alternatives that have similar taste and texture to meat are great for these people. I, myself, don’t miss meat so I usually buy tempeh, plain tofu or marinated tofu instead.
