Why do they call today black friday??
there are two reasons: historically, the day after thanksgiving is the day many americans have set aside to do their christmas shopping; there are an inordinate number of sales generated on this day and so many americans do this that retailers recognize, if they can get these eager customers to walk into their stores, they can make a huge profit. the word ‘black’ comes from the use of black and red markers to indicate profit and loss, respectively. traditionally, even when the store is generating a loss, there are so many sales generated on black friday that on that one day the company can get ‘back into the black’ -that is, generating profit.
