Spaces are tight and Japanese are not used to watching for cars backing out of spaces and may not spot you in time if you are backing out of a space. Japanese will however, expect you to park backwards and wait for you if you are parkig your car. If a car or bus is backing out, usually they need someone to help them navagate their way out and watch for traffic or they have a loud beeper on the back to let people know they are backing up. If your car doesn`t have that, you will mostlikely be 100% liable for hitting something or someone while backing out. Many cars here have lots of back mirrors and some even have cameras on the back end and a monitor next to the driver which shows you what is going on as soon as you put your car in reverse.
