Why do the Tumacacori Highlands need protection?
The Tumacacori Highlands are a national treasure. The large, remote roadless lands offer visitors a unique opportunity to hike, hunt, and explore one of Arizona’s remaining true wildlands. Home to magnificent species such as the jaguar, elegant trogon, and Chiricahua leopard frog, in addition to hosting a great diversity of cultural and historic sites, the Tumacacori Highlands are now threatened by off-road vehicle use and impacts from an expanding population. Wilderness designation will secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness, which shall be administered for the use and enjoyment of the American people in such manner as will leave them unimpaired for future use and enjoyment. > Read more on Threats.
