Why do the Spanish speaking kids have to take Spanish class in highschool?

This is my personal opinion: Most Spanish kids are born or raised in the US; which sometimes limits their spanish knowledge or vocabulary to only what they learned at home or with close friends. Spanish classes in highschools do not teach them Spanish but expand their vocabulary and why not, they might increase their confidence while speaking it. However, I do believe there are some good Spanish speakers that take Spanish highschool classes to get an easy A.

I’m spanish speaking and I took it all through out high school and college, there were a lot of rules that I didn’t know and I knew how to speak it but I wasn’t good at writing it so that’s why I took it.
