Why do the schools need an interconnected library system?
Currently, school libraries are separate stand-alone entities, meaning that students, teachers, and librarians are unable to access library materials available at neighboring schools. By connecting the libraries over an upgraded computer network, schools can better communicate with each other. The program would be similar to the interlibrary loan system found throughout the Pierce County Library System. For example, if a student requests a book that his or her school library does not carry, the system would allow the librarian to request the book from another school that has a copy. The interconnected library system would give each school access to the entire district’s inventory of books, sheet music, and other learning materials.
