Why do the scholars refer to this emerging religion as the Jesus Movement instead of Christianity?
the last name of Jesus is NOT “christ” and his first name was NOT “jesus” most liikely he was called something like ” Jeshua” a common variation of Joshua and his family name would have been “bin Jusuf” if it was used at all “Jesus” is the Greek Translation, “Christ” was greek for “the anointed one” or chosen messiah the Jews were looking for a messia to free Isreal from roman conquest but the romans completely destroyed the jews about 70 AD the fist big arument among the jewish followers of Jesus was ” can non jews join our club” Paul of Tarsus never met Jesus the writing of the new testiment did not did not appear till late in the first century maybe 90 AD Christianity was not named that until after 100 (not exactly sure) it was not until the 350AD that the Roman emperor Consantine declared Christianity to be the official legal religion of the western roman empire and demanded taht all the bishops of the many seperate churches get togeather and decide what the “Truth” was. from 350 t
