Why do the proposed transmission lines run as close as they do to houses when there is room to move them further away within the Transportation Utility Corridor?

The Alberta Safety Codes Act and Electrical and Communication Utility Code regulates the separation between transmission lines and other infrastructure within the Transportation Utility Corridor (TUC). The specific location of the transmission line within the TUC is assigned by Alberta Infrastructure (AI), who consulted with the Heartland Project Team. The team advised AI of the right-of-way width for the line as well as its objective of providing as much separation as possible from residences along the TUC. As a result of these discussions, the potential right-of-way was moved further away from residences than originally planned. The current potential path is shown on the project maps included in the March information package.
