Why do the Play-Doh people bother to make so many colors of Play-Doh?
For the sake of preserving our multi-color sets growing up, we weren’t allowed to mash colors together – we usually had an excess of red for mashing lots together, and then we could use blue, yellow, etc. as “toppings” on a pizza, a “hat” for our Play-Doh man, or petals on our flowers. But we knew smooshing two colors together ruins the color forever. Your kids might notice if you just start buying only blue, and they probably won’t mind terribly much if all they like to do is moosh the clumps together. But when/if they get to an age where they like to sculpt things and make more colorful designs, just remind them not to mix colors! It might end up being a good way of teaching them care for their toys/posessions – kind of a beginner’s lesson on how some things require care to keep them in tact.
