Why do the permissions in Linux/UNIX look wrong?

0

Linux and Solaris display permissions in the format of user, group, and other. The Windows 2003 Storage Server file servers use Server for NFS to share out files to Linux/Solaris clients and use NTFS as a filesystem, which stores/assigns permissions to file and directories in a different format. Microsoft has made an effort to map Linux/Solaris type permissions to NTFS permissions for the Server for NFS component, but it is a non-trivial task and can be very confusing.
